Man exposed himself to child in public

A man exposed himself on the street in front of his ex-partner and a child, a court has heard.

Chiron-Blessed Starlight (aka Joshua Terehunga Edwards), 40, was sentenced in the Dunedin District Court yesterday after earlier admitting charges of doing an indecent act and trespassing.

The court heard the defendant and his ex-partner were neighbours in Mosgiel.

On September 10 last year, Starlight was trespassed from the woman’s property, but four months later he was in her front yard.

On January 10 the victim was inside with her young children when she heard her ex yelling out to her from his property.

He repeatedly asked her to have sex with him.

Despite her refusals, Starlight went into the victim’s front yard and said "bro, I’m not even your b.... , bro I wanna f... you".

He then walked on to the footpath and pulled down his shorts, exposing his genitals to the woman and her son.

"F... bro, you are going to have to have a look at it," he said.

Later that day, Starlight knocked on her window and asked her to have sex with him again.

She continued to tell him no, but later he made his way through the front door.

The victim shoved the defendant outside and locked the door.

In a statement to the court, the victim said she found herself constantly looking over her shoulder since the incident.

She worried about the impact it had on her children.

Judge Dominic Flatley said the effects on the victim were clearly "profound".

He sentenced Starlight to three months’ community detention, 175 hours’ community work and 12 months’ supervision.

The judge also made a protection order in favour of the victim.
