A raid involving armed police in Ocean Grove has led to the arrests of three people in relation to the recent spate of armed robberies at Dunedin dairies.

A police spokeswoman said a 27-year-old man and women aged 19 and 20 were arrested following the execution of a search warrant at an Oregon St, Dunedin, property yesterday.

They will appear in the Dunedin District Court today on charges including aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

The warrant followed an investigation into three robberies which targeted the Musselburgh Food Centre on June 7, the Stadium Store in St Kilda on Sunday evening and the Elgin Food Market in Maryhill on Monday night.

Police also recovered a firearm, one of several items thought to be linked to the robberies.

Detective Sergeant Dylan Ross, of Dunedin, said the arrests were a "great result".

Armed offenders squad officers cleared the property about noon before uniformed police officers searched the home.

A neighbour said the tenants had moved into the property only a few months ago.

Southern district police criminal investigations manager Detective Inspector Steve Wood, of Dunedin, confirmed earlier this week an attack on the Stadium Store in St Kilda on Sunday evening was now being treated as an aggravated robbery rather than a theft, as police said previously.

A masked man and woman driving a red Mazda hatchback allegedly carried out aggravated robberies of the Stadium Store on Sunday and the Elgin Food Market in Maryhill on Monday evening, targeting cash and tobacco.

A man working at the Elgin Food Market alleged the masked man was wielding a pistol.

A red hatchback involved in a petrol drive-off on Sunday evening and also linked to the two robberies was found near Milton on Tuesday.
