The slaying of a miniature horse in Waitati earlier this year remains unsolved, but Dunedin detectives continue to actively investigate the case.
In the seaside community of Waitati miniature horse Star was stabbed 41 times late on Sunday February 17.
The beloved 10-year-old horse later succumbed to his injuries.
A police spokeswoman said police still had a team from the Criminal Investigation Branch working on the case, and had undertaken another search of the paddock.
''Dunedin police carried out a search of areas of interest in Waitati last week, including the paddock and surrounds where the pony was fenced in on the night it was attacked.''
Police continued to urge anyone with any information on the killing to come forward.
Police have also spoken to several people of interest.
Star's owner, Mandy Mayhem-Bullock, earlier urged people to ignore rumours about who might have killed the miniature horse.
About 120 people attended a vigil in February near the scene of the crime at the corner of Brown and Pitt Sts.
At the time of the incident, Otago Equine Hospital veterinarian Peter Gillespie said he believed more than one person was responsible for the injuries. But criminologist Greg Newbold believed only one person would have likely been responsible because of the rare depravity of the act.
Dr Gillespie had seen nothing like it in his long career, he said at the time.
''I've been doing this for close on 40 years and this is just the worst, most distressing thing I've ever seen.''
