Two Dunedin youths were caught by police allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle on Wednesday.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to Corstorphine Rd at 1.15am after two youths, 13 and 15 years old, were spotted loitering near a vehicle they had allegedly attempted to steal moments before.
The registered owner of the Mazda Demio came out on to the street about 1am and found their vehicle had a broken window and its ignition had been tampered with.
Police were called and when they arrived they located the teenagers on the side of the road.
The 13-year-old was referred to Youth Aid and the 15-year-old was returned back to her caregivers as she was a bystander during the incident, Snr Sgt Bond said.
