Last lockdown it was teddy bears, but this time around it is hoped Dunedin windows will take on a golden floral theme.

This year’s Daffodil Day, a major fundraiser for the Cancer Society to be held on Friday, has been cancelled because of lockdown.

Dunedin woman Nicole Serong always made sure to donate on Daffodil Day, and she was sad to see that the street appeal was cancelled.

A friend of hers recently started working at the organisation.

In a bid to support Daffodil Day, and keep her young children entertained during lockdown, she printed out pictures of daffodils that could be stuck in the window of her house in Crammond Ave, Corstorphine.

She hoped others would also adopt the idea, in the same way the placing of teddy bears in windows took off during last year’s lockdown.

The Cancer Society is also encouraging people to make a donation online in lieu of the street appeal this year.

Society chief executive Lucy Elwood said the street appeal typically raised about $1million for those affected by cancer.

People can visit www.anz.co.nz/donate to donate.
