Dance Ōtepoti general manager Anna Noonan said this weekend’s International Dance Day celebrations were for everyone.
More than 200 dancers from across Dunedin will perform as a part of the event, which will provide a diverse experience for all involved.
She said the celebration was about "sharing the joy and benefits of dance with others".
"I think mainly what is so infectious about the weekend is the enthusiasm and passion that people have for dance."
The weekend will include a variety of performances, workshops and talks about dance.
Ms Noonan said there were 18 different styles of dance on show, including hip-hop, jazz, contemporary and Highland dancing.
The big community celebration brought together dance groups from across the city, including recreational and professional dancers.
There were strong small dance communities scattered around Dunedin within the bigger dancing fraternity in the city.
Despite this, Ms Noonan said dance was a fairly under-resourced sector and events such as the International Dance Day celebration gave dancers an opportunity to show their talent.
All events were free to attend in the Octagon, Te Whare o Rukutia and Toitū Otago Settlers Museum’s Josephine Foyer.
