Dunedin police are concerned about dangerous pranks around the city.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said Dunedin police had been called to two separate incidents in the past week in which youths had been seen throwing stink bombs and firing BB gun pellets at pedestrians in Albion Way from the Great King St car park.
The youths disappeared before police arrived.
However, two 14-year-olds were spoken to by police yesterday after they were caught firing a BB gun in the back yard of a Wakari house.
"It's just silly behaviour which could result in injury. They don't think of the consequences."
Snr Sgt Aitken said no-one had been injured but it may only be a matter of time.
"A BB pellet could cause a permanent injury. Some of those BB guns are extremely powerful.
"Kids need to find something more imaginative to do with their holidays."
• Dunedin police were called to a "fight" at the Dunedin Botanic Garden yesterday after a gardener and a man on a bicycle exchanged "angry words".
Sergeant Tania Baron said police were called to the lower gardens about 2.20pm after a fracas between a gardener and a cyclist who had been told to get off his bicycle and walk.
The man alighted and a fracas started, with the two yelling at each other.
The gardener allegedly stuck his rake in the cycle's spokes, preventing the man from moving on.
The cyclist allegedly pushed the gardener, who then rang the police.
Police could not locate the cyclist.
No charges were laid.
