Newspaper delivery man Mitt Smits (76) said the overgrown moss on the footpaths in Bird and De Carle Sts, St Kilda, was getting worse and the Dunedin City Council was not doing anything about it.
He said he was worried he might fall and hurt himself on the slippery surface.
"I’ve got a letter here from ACC saying I’m in danger of falling because of my unsteadiness.
"If I fall, I’ll break a hip or something and I’m stuffed for life.
There were a lot of elderly people in his neighbourhood and they should not be scared to walk on the street because they might slip, Mr Smits said.
He said he contacted the council more than a fortnight ago and they told him they would contact a contractor but nothing had been done yet.
A council spokesman said the council’s contractors regularly waterblasted footpaths.
"A request for waterblasting at the corner of Bird and De Carle Sts was received and passed straight to our contractor, who expects to carry out the work by the end of next week," the spokesman said.
