Infrastructure and development general manager Simon Drew is leaving on September 1 to take up a new national role at Fulton Hogan, the council has confirmed.
Mr Drew, a chartered professional civil engineer, was recruited from Beca to join the council in 2018.
He is part of the council’s executive leadership team and his responsibilities are transport, Three Waters, waste and environmental solutions, and city development.
Mr Drew’s time at the council coincided with a lead scare concerning Waikouaiti water, a drive to replace ageing pipes in the city and refinement of plans to deal with stormwater and flooding in South Dunedin.
He also oversaw improved delivery of its infrastructure programme, as well as projects ranging from upgrading George St to improvements on the Portobello and Harington Point Rds on Otago Peninsula.
A low point was appearing at a coronial inquest this year, where Mr Drew accepted there had been oversights in the maintenance of an Outram intersection.
The council said plans for his replacement would be confirmed soon.
