The Dunedin City Council is seeking providers to lead its chief executive recruitment process.
A confidential meeting of the council’s chief executive performance and employment committee was held last Thursday and a notice inviting expressions of interest for the chief executive recruitment process was posted online that afternoon.
The council wanted recruitment providers with a strong record in executive appointments, ideally in a local government context.
"DCC would like to have a new chief executive appointed and starting in October 2026," the notice said.
"The process and methodology adopted by the successful provider should clearly identify how this outcome will be achieved."
Sandy Graham was appointed to the role for a five-year period in 2020. In April last year, instead of heading to market or extending her contract by two years, councillors voted to extend it by a year.
Ms Graham’s contract extension is due to expire in October. She has not yet said if she intends to be among applicants for her role.
The DCC said the recruitment provider should have an understanding of the local government or public sector operating environment and the "capability to support the elected council through a high-quality, confidential and legislatively compliant process", resulting in suitable high-calibre candidates.
The recruitment contract is expected to be awarded by mid-February. — Allied Media
