Dunedin City Council contractors work on a fence along Shore St in Andersons Bay yesterday.

The fence was damaged when a large boulder rolled down the cliff earlier this year.

A council spokesman said cliffs in the area were on private property and not the responsibility of the council.

Further around the cliff in Portobello Rd, a slip occurred below some Belmont Lane properties in February.

Some barriers remained while services were rerouted, but these would be removed once this was complete.

The slip itself was over two private properties, but both homes remain habitable — one was issued with a dangerous building notice initially, but this was lifted following completion of a detailed engineering assessment.
