Traffic management would be in place while the repairs were done but the road will remain open and no detours will be needed.
Dunedin City Council network contracts manager William Clifford said the work would mostly be located along the side of the road, but traffic could be restricted to one lane at different stages.
Work to replace the collapsed section and get the pipe working properly again was expected to take about a month, Mr Clifford said.
Since repairs were made to a nearby section of the pipe in July, camera footage had showed longer sections of pipe were in worse condition than first thought and would need to be replaced.
Further work would be needed following an investigation and more detailed planning.
All the wastewater from the site would be transferred to the pump station and there had been no overflows into the environment, he said.
