Development of some kind is being explored at the site of a former bus depot in Dunedin.
Kāinga Ora had considered buying the Princes St property from the Dunedin City Council and building community housing there, but ended up deciding not to proceed.
More than a year since the government agency pulled out of negotiations, the council has indicated development remains on the cards.
"Staff are continuing to work with a property developer on an option for the site, but we can’t be more specific at this stage," a council spokesman said.
Go Bus Transport has withdrawn operations from the property, setting up a new depot at the former PlaceMakers site in Portsmouth Dr, South Dunedin.
The Go Bus lease at Princes St had ended and the company was in the process of finalising its departure, the council spokesman said.
Revenue from the Princes St property had added up to $483,192 since 2022-23 and expenditure totalled $287,534, including maintenance, rates, water charges, insurance and other costs, he said.
