Otago Girls' High School year 12 student Kaida "Kandi Lei" Rumble, 16, is ready for the 5th annual Esports Brawl today.

Esports teacher in charge Duncan Trickey said eight teams from schools across Otago were taking part in the competition at the Otago Polytechnic.

They were going to play 2020 five-on-five first-person shooter video game Valorant.

Mr Trickey said it was the longest-running esports event in the country and he was proud of the positive impact social gaming was having on students.

Tickets for the event sold out within three days of release.
