Dunedin events manager Dan Hendra is feeling a "lot of excitement'' as well as "a little bit of nerves'' after being appointed as the new director of the New Zealand International Science Festival.

Mr Hendra (37) is the man behind Dunedin's inaugural Craft Beer & Food Festival and events run by the Otago University Students' Association over the past five years.

He said yesterday he was excited to "get stuck into the role'' of science festival manager keen to tackle "the new set of challenges'' it would bring.

His appointment was announced yesterday at the annual meeting of the incorporated society behind the two-yearly event.

Mr Hendra will have an office at Otago Museum.

He will take up his new role in mid-March. Long-term director Chris Green stood down last month.
