A 4WD vehicle was left perched on the back of a parked car after a crash in the Dunedin suburb of Caversham today.

Police were called the scene at the intersection of Thorn and David Sts this afternoon.

The driver of the 4WD Toyota told the ODT a Holden Commodore ran through a stop sign and into his vehicle, sending it on to the back of a Ford Falcon parked on David St.

It is thought the woman driver of the Holden received injuries in the crash, but the extent of these was not known.

She was assisted by members of the public and helped to an ambulance before being taken to Dunedin Hospital for assessment.

There was no word from police on whether the woman had run through the stop sign.
