Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were called to Night ’n Day Regent Rd about 11pm on Friday.
The store’s loss prevention officer discovered a 45-year-old man who was allegedly concealing confectionery under his top.
The man was confronted by a staff member as he attempted to leave the store, but the man resisted, pushing him before running out, Sgt Lee said.
‘‘The male had been trespassed from the store a week earlier.’’
Police could not immediately find the man, but later located him in the Octagon.
He was arrested and bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date. He was charged with assault, wilful trespass and shoplifting, Sgt Lee said.
