Drivers crash on black ice

Black ice and heavy frosts in Dunedin city were contributing factors in three crashes between 8am and 9am, police say.

A car and truck collided in Fyratt St, a car slid off the road at the intersection of Constitution and London Sts and a car crashed into a pole on Burns St. No-one was injured in the crashes.

Sergeant Ed Baker, of Dunedin, said police were generally pleased with driver behaviour in Dunedin this morning, given the heavy frost.

Dunedin airport recorded a low of -5.6degC at 6am, with the temperature in the city centre hovering around 1degC between 6am and 9am.
