The crew from Beijing food and travel show X-Fun arrived in Dunedin on Tuesday.
Tourism New Zealand public relations adviser Ewan Cao, who was travelling with the crew, said show hosts Xia Sun and Yuxin Liu, camera operators and others were also visiting Auckland, Wellington and Hawke's Bay.
The Dunedin visit would last until today, and the crew would visit tourism operators including Cadbury and Monarch Wildlife Cruises.
The show, known as Foodie Club in China, had been running for three years.
The show's website had received 355million visits.
Its main broadcast platform was iQiyi, China's leading online video platform, and it may be broadcast on television in Hong Kong and Singapore, where earlier series had been picked up.
Mr Cao said the hosts were celebrities in Beijing, with ''a massive following on social media''.
Viewers of the show would follow in the footsteps of the hosts, visiting the hotels and restaurants.
The tour to New Zealand was the first time the show had been to the southern hemisphere.
Having the crew here would ''absolutely'' help bring Chinese tourists to New Zealand, and Dunedin.
Enterprise Dunedin director John Christie said the organisation was ''delighted'' to be hosting the film crew in Dunedin, and for the city to be part of the filming schedule.
''China is a key international market for Dunedin and the resulting coverage will raise the city's profile as a great destination to many more potential visitors than we could have achieved on our own.''
Enterprise Dunedin collaborated with Tourism New Zealand through that organisation's international media programme.
The programme targeted international media to provide coverage of New Zealand as a tourism destination.
