Well-known Dunedin neurosurgeon Assoc Prof Samir Bishara, ONZM, died earlier this week, aged 87.
He was appointed to Dunedin Hospital's neurosurgery unit by the Otago Hospital Board in 1966, having earlier trained in Cairo, London and Swansea.
He retired from the University of Otago's Medical School staff in 1995 and then from Healthcare Otago in 1998 but continued in private practice at Mercy Hospital. He was awarded his ONZM honour in June, 1998.
