Dutch TV star returns to Dunedin for travel show

A Dutch television star who spent part of his childhood in Dunedin is returning to the city with a camera crew, to film an episode of a programme watched by millions.

Teun Kuilboer (29) was born in Holland but lived in Dunedin with his father when he was aged 4 and 5.

His visit to the city next week will be the first time he has returned since leaving in the late 1980s.

Mr Kuilboer will arrive in Dunedin on Tuesday and spend two days filming an episode of Waar is De Mol? (Where is The Mole?).

The travel show will feature attractions Mr Kuilboer remembered from his time in Dunedin and follow him around the city as he talks about how it has changed.

Tourism Dunedin assisted with the co-ordination of the film crew's time in Dunedin, organising support and advice for filming, accommodation and places of interest.

In the past decade, Mr Kuilboer has starred in various television series, films and theatre productions.

His acting career began when he was discovered on the set of a soap series that his mother and an aunt wrote for.

Mr Kuilboer looked like one of the regular actors and was cast in the show as the character's son.

Before visiting Dunedin, he will travel through Christchurch and Queenstown.

The Dunedin episode will be aired in the Netherlands later this year.
