Kaikorai Valley College pupils (from left) David Taing (12), Hamish King (13) and Patrick Boyes (13) compete in the school's 1000km Challenge and Sport Expo yesterday.
The entire school ran 1.5km each to produce a grand total of 1000km.
The event encourages pupils to get involved in sport-related activity.
Apart from the 1000km run, which started the day, pupils were given a chance to try sporting activities such as table tennis, rock climbing, martial arts and bowls.
Twenty-four sporting activities were on offer.
The event was established five years ago and 41% of the participants went on to join a sports organisation.
That number had now increased to more than 50%.
The event continues today, with more than 600 primary school pupils from the college's catchment area also having an opportunity to try some of the activities at the expo.
