Dozens marked Good Friday in Stations of the Cross processions around Otago yesterday.

Heavy rain in many areas was not enough to dampen the spirits of the faithful.

About 75 worshippers from Queenstown’s various churches walked from St Peter’s Anglican Church at 11am to St Joseph’s Catholic Church, stopping at at various points to hear bible verses chronicling Jesus’ journey to his crucifixion.

In Dunedin, two ceremonies marked the day of solemn observance.

About 40 people took part in the Ecumenical Good Friday Service in Northeast Valley, while about 20 made the walk from St Clair to the Caversham Baptist Church.

About 30 people took part in the Walk of Witness in Wanaka.

Organiser Aaron Johnstone said the rainy weather reflected the sadness of Good Friday, the day Jesus died on the cross.

A handful of hardy worshippers marked the day in Hampden.

The group carried a cross from the Presbyterian Chruch to the Catholic Church in the township.
