Fire in Kaikorai Valley College boiler stack

Firefighters were called to a blaze at Kaikorai Valley College after a fire broke out in the smoke stack of the school's boiler.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand firefighters were called to the scene about 3.30pm and were in the process of extinguishing the fire.

Senior station officer Rob Torrance, of Dunedin City Station, said the filters in the smoke stack of the boiler were on fire.

Smoke was billowing from the boiler as firefighters used a Bronto Skylift to fight the blaze.

The fire appeared to be contained to the filters and the plant's housing appeared undamaged.
