After reading in the Otago Daily Times of the problem, John Buckingham, of JB Security Ltd, offered manager Robyn Elliman a security system free of charge.
He described the thefts, sometimes two a day, as "disgusting".
"When you nick something from a charity, that is the lowest of the low."
The $5000 system, including four cameras, a monitor and hard drive for storing up to four weeks' footage, was installed yesterday.
Mrs Elliman said it was "wonderful to have that feeling of comfort".
Other responses to the article were public anger about the behaviour of shoplifters, and vows of vigilance from regular shoppers.
Thefts were now not as prevalent, but she hoped the cameras would allow her to identify thieves and stop the problem.
