The new event manager for the iD Dunedin Fashion Week plans to freshen up the event, and work to attract major sponsors.

Broadcaster and company director Nicky Rennie's company Polished Marketing has the contract to manage the 2016 week.

She said yesterday she was keen to make sure there was an element of surprise in next year's event.

''The ingredients that have been lovingly nurtured for the last few years have done a fabulous job, but it would be unrealistic to expect that everything should continue exactly as it is.''

Ms Rennie was also keen to attract a major sponsor.

''Well, I think one would be very helpful,'' she joked.

Ms Rennie's role in the 17th event was confirmed late last week.

She has taken over from Paul Smith, of Wayfinder Event Management.

Her role begins on August 10.

She described iD Fashion as ''a pretty mammoth event''.

A major role was looking for new sponsors, as well as ''looking after the sponsors that we have''.

''One of the reasons I've been brought on board is to look at sponsorship, and ways we can attract new people to the event.''

She would also look from a creative perspective at aspects like the website and image of an event in which the Dunedin City Council has invested $100,000 for next year.

''It's about trying to come up with creative ways to freshen it up and make it vital.''

While she was not keen to talk specifics before meetings with partners in the event to discuss its future, she hoped to look at it ''with fresh eyes''.

''It's going to be a case of finding things that pique the curiosity of the general public and just adding elements of surprise to the event.''
