Nicki West and her son, Keenan, could barely contain their excitement on Saturday when they made the winning bid on what will become their new holiday home.

The pair were among several bidders vying for a three bedroom house, built by Certified Builders Association of New Zealand members from across Otago who volunteered their time and skills over several weekends.

The project involved up to 20 tradesmen, providing about 1200 man hours, to complete the house to a fully clad and lined stage.

The house auction, run by Harcourts Dunedin in the Mitre 10 Mega car park in Andersons Bay Rd, raised $195,000 for the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

''I was so nervous when I was bidding, but now I'm just so excited,'' she said after the hammer came down, while giving enthusiastic hugs to anyone who got in her way.

The prefabricated house would be removed from the Mitre 10 Mega car park before early July, and taken to the Wests' holiday spot in Cromwell.
