An ‘‘amazing'' fundraising night has saved the Dunedin Community Learning Centre from closure, chairwoman Chris Thompson says.
The event, at the Otago Yacht Club on March4, raised $35,500 for the centre, which caters for people with intellectual disabilities.
Without the cash injection, the centre would have closed in the middle of this year.
The centre will continue to seek a permanent source of funding.
The night was organised by Ms Thompson's daughter Anna, who is based in Auckland, and family friend Sam Buchan, of Queenstown.
Ms Thompson thanked Dunedin band Ragged for playing at the event, and Animation Research for making a short film about the centre.
Items auctioned on the night included a weekend at The Glenorchy Lodge, which went for $6000, and a day's use of a Ferrari Spider, for $2000.
Ms Thompson was delighted with the support shown for the centre.
‘‘It's absolutely amazing - I couldn't believe how generous the people of Dunedin were.''
