A South Dunedin aged care facility has been in lockdown for more than a week, following a suspected outbreak of gastroenteritis.
Southern District Health Board infection prevention and control charge nurse manger Jo Stodart said Oxford Court Lifecare notified Public Health South of the situation on May 10 and began limiting movement in and out of the facility.
"When there is a suspected outbreak, any residents with symptoms are separated from other residents and are closely monitored.
"Staff follow stringent infection prevention and control protocols, including the wearing of gowns and gloves when providing care to these residents. This is standard practice."
Visitors were not allowed unless agreed by staff, she said.
There are no other facilities with a gastroenteritis outbreak in the district.
