A Robin 5KVA generator was stolen from the Lookout Point overbridge construction depot in Caversham during the past week.
Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the 70kg generator was stored in a padlocked shipping container.
Bolt cutters were used to open it sometime between August 12 and 17, she said.
