The response to what is believed to be the broadest Dunedin City Council opinion survey in more than a decade has left staff "pretty rapt", after more than 4000 people returned hardcopy versions of the survey.
The council's Your City, Our Future consultation survey contained 84 questions aimed at "future visioning" to help decide the city's direction, and was sent to every household in the city with the council's City Talk magazine.
It sought input on the priority residents would like the council to give to spending on everything from transportation to arts and culture, and from the environment to the economy.
Council policy team manager Nicola Johnston said yesterday 4053 people had returned the surveys.
There had also been more than 2500 responses on a Facebook site, and while the period for returning surveys was over, the social media sites were continuing, and it was not too late to get involved.
"We are pretty pleased with the level of response," Ms Johnston said of the social media.
Results of the survey would go to councillors at a workshop in late July, and would be made public in early August, she said.
The results of the survey will feed into the council's strategic plans, including the spatial plan, economic development strategy, sustainability framework and district plan.
