'Good Samaritans' help clear motorway

Good Samaritans were able to swiftly get traffic flowing by rearranging the bonanza of traffic management supplies spilt by a traffic management vehicle which crashed on the Southern Motorway, in Dunedin.

Station officer Aaron Collins, of Lookout Point station, said firefighters were advised of the crash when a passer-by stopped in at the station to tell them about it about 7.30am yesterday.

By the time they arrived and took over the scene, bystanders had already cleared a lane of debris, so traffic could move through, he said.

Spilt items included cones, traffic lights and road signs.

Some road cones were used to block off the scene of the crash.

A St John spokeswoman said an ambulance was called but was stood down as it was not needed.

Traffic Management & Control Ltd managing director Peter Graham said he was not aware of the reason for the crash and there were "no injuries at all" as a result of it.
