The Green Island Art Group's annual exhibition in central Dunedin is a chance to show off the group's talent, but it is also a great social occasion, group member Yvonne Johnston says.

The four-day exhibition opens tomorrow at the Meridian mall, and features up to 60 paintings.

''It's a social thing. We love it. Everybody likes to come along and see what you've done this year.''

Mrs Johnston, of Mosgiel, said the exhibitionwas an opportunity for artists to sell their work. About 30 paintings sold last year.

The group had a healthy membership of 29 active members, from as far away as Milton, and throughout Dunedin.

''We're a pretty active sort of a group, as well as a social group.

''If there's anything to be done, everybody helps.''

The members meet every Tuesday at the Janet Cameron rooms in Green Island.

New members are welcome, and those interested should contact Mrs Johnston on 489-0358.
