Rosie Ann Crozier (21) died in the crash on State Highway 1, near Morven in South Canterbury, on June 5.
In the Timaru District Court yesterday, Allan Hofstra (21) pleaded guilty to careless driving causing injury and death, the Timaru Herald reports.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Ian Howard said Hofstra was driving north on the highway and went around a corner and crossed into the southbound lane, into the path of an oncoming car driven by Ms Crozier.
Ms Crozier tried to avoid Hofstra's vehicle but he pulled right and "continued into the path of Crozier's vehicle", the Herald reported police as saying.
Ms Crozier died at the scene.
A passenger in the car with Ms Crozier was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with multiple injuries. He needed a lengthy spell of rehabilitation in hospital, police said.
Judge Joanna Maze referred Hofstra to restorative justice and remanded the case to March 8, the Herald said.
