Hay shed catches fire near Momona

Firefighters are battling a shed fire in Dunedin this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they received a call to a shed on fire on Centre Rd, near Momona, about 6.20am.

Two appliances, from Outram and Mosgiel, and a tanker from Waihola were sent to the blaze.

The shed, about 10 meters by 4 meters, was well-involved in fire —  he said.

‘‘It appears it was a hay shed.

‘‘[Firefighters] were using hose reels and breathing apparatus to fight the fire.’’

A tractor was used to pull the hay out of the shed and dampen the fire, he said.

Firefighters remained at the scene, but the fire was under control and no other buildings were threatened.
