The Otago Heritage Bus Society will operate a Christmas Day shuttle service between St Clair and Normanby this year.
Otago Heritage Bus Society chairman Philip Riley said the Otago Regional Council approved the service, which would run between 9am and 7.45pm on Christmas Day.
The service, which will operate along one of Dunedin's most popular routes for residents and visitors, could prove especially useful for those arriving on the two cruise ships scheduled for Christmas Day - the Volendam and the Sea Princess, he said.
The scheduled service will depart from St Clair on the hour and from Normanby on the half hour, from 9am to 7.45pm, with the last service scheduled to reach Cargill's Corner at about 7.55pm.
Since the Otago Heritage Bus Society did not usually operate a regular passenger service and usually only operated monthly excursions, it would be dusting off its 1981 Leyland Leopard 194 bus - formerly a Dunedin City Transport bus - which was retired from service last year and has undergone all necessary safety requirements to again operate as a passenger vehicle.
Volunteers will drive the bus and the fare will cost a gold coin, which will go towards further Otago Heritage Bus Society restoration projects.
The service will operate between 9am and 7.45pm on Christmas Day. No Go Card or concessions are available. For more information visit www.otagoheritagebus.co.nz
