Dunedin police are continuing to investigate a suspicious fire which heavily damaged a house bus in Burma Rd, near Ross Creek, on Tuesday night.

The bus was previously reported stolen from Otaki St, in South Dunedin, last week.

It had since been found abandoned by Dunedin police on Burma Rd, but its owner had not yet been able to remove it.

Police dogs were taken to the scene in a bid to track the offender, but were not successful.

Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said that setting fire to a vehicle was a serious offence.

The matter was being ''treated seriously and we're investigating it''.

The converted school bus belonged to Dunedin man who said he had spent the winter doing it up so he and his wife could live in it while renovating their Purakaunui home.
