Hub ‘one-stop shop’ for everyone

A Dunedin Ngāi Tahu-led health organisation will open their new "one-stop shop" hub this autumn.

Te Kāika chief executive Matt Matahaere said they were all very excited to provide the community with a new wellbeing hub set to open on May 1.

Based in Caversham, it would deliver services in partnership with Te Whatu Ora and the Ministry of Social Development.

"This is about bringing the public sector, iwi and Crown together to deliver the best services all for communities."

By providing combined services, Mr Matahaere hoped together the three organisations could help improve the ease and experience individuals had with both health and social services.

He described the new centre as a "one-stop shop" where people could come in and have their health, dental and social needs met all in the one place.

Mr Matahaere said he wanted those who came to the hub to "go on and live prosperous lives and model that type of behaviour for their own whānau".

The hub had been in the works for a "number of years", he said.

He said the two-storey building was a way for Ngāi Tahu leaders to create a strong foundation for future leaders to thrive from.

Although Te Kāika was a Ngāi Tahu-led organisation, he explained the hub would be open to everyone.

"The exciting thing for all of us here, is building stronger communities, one in which people will have a chance to make their way in life."

Te Kāika’s slogan was "he korowai manaaki [a cloak of care]", which Mr Matahaere said was ingrained in their services.

"That comes from Matapura Ellison and that’s just a cloak of care for everyone, that’s just about providing basic services for all whānau, for all the community."
