Armed police arrested a man at the corner of Lynn and Chapman Sts after he was seen sleeping in his car outside a school with what was believed to be a firearm on his lap.
A police spokeswoman said police were called about 12.20pm yesterday.
They responded and saw the car in nearby Shetland St, outside Wakari School. The man then took off. He was stopped by police shortly afterwards.
A 44-year-old man was subsequently arrested and is due to appear in Dunedin District Court on a charge of unlawfully possessing an imitation firearm, the spokeswoman said. — Allied Media
