It’s all a facade

The facade of the new Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) building in Dowling St takes shape this week.

A Ngāi Tahu Property spokeswoman said the design pictured was both aesthetically pleasing and functional in nature. The exterior glazing featured a distinctive printed artwork designed by Ngāi Tahu artist Kirsten Parkinson, the spokeswoman said.

The artwork was inspired by the woven pattern of a traditional poti (flax basket).

"Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it has been intricately designed in conjunction with building energy modelling software to optimise daylight levels and minimise energy consumption", the spokeswoman said.

She said the building was progressing well and remained on track for completion in the middle of next year.
