Keeping Dunedin beautiful are (from left) Daisy Howes, Taika Young (7), Shane Young and Stella Young (5).

They were among about 50 people who participated in a beach clean-up on Saturday, collecting more than 130kg of rubbish at St Kilda from Lawyers Head to Middle Beach.

Keep Dunedin Beautiful co-ordinator Allison Wallace said the clean-up was a chance to highlight the importance of keeping the coast free of rubbish.

A notable find included a child's bike buried in the sand dunes, she said.

The event was organised by Keep Dunedin Beautiful and Otago Museum in support of the James Cameron Challenging the Deep Exhibition.
