A Dunedin bar manager was socked in the face when an allegedly drunk and drugged-up patron began to rain down blows on him.

The 45-year-old perpetrator was severely drug affected and agitated while in the Dunedin Social Club outdoor area in the Octagon last night at 7.45pm, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman said.

As a result, the bar manager asked the man to ‘‘move on’’ and leave the premises.

In response, the man attempted to rain a flurry of punches on the manager.

Most missed, except one, which landed squarely on the manager’s face.

The incident was reported to police and officers attested the man a short time later after he stumbled over to the Dunedin Central Police Station.

He was arrested and held in custody.

The man would appear in Dunedin District Court today charged with assault and breaching his bail conditions.

The manager was uninjured in the attack, Snr Sgt Notman said.
