"It was very exciting to see it come together," centre board of trustees chairwoman Bronwyn Powell said.
She was also delighted to see pupils exploring the new facilities, the former playground having been closed earlier this year while the redevelopment took place.
More than 40 people attended the 10am unveiling of a lively new mural at the front of the centre, and the overall opening of the new facilities, at the centre in Ross St, Roslyn on Saturday.
The redevelopment had brought many benefits, including a new, purpose-built area for school administration and meeting space for the head teacher/manager and parents, as well as the playground redevelopment, she said.
Financial grants for the project included a $35,000 grant from the Otago Community Trust.
The playground had been levelled off, and new features added, including a new climbing area, tunnel and slide.
"It’s much more disability-friendly, which is important to me," she added.
Ms Powell said the redeveloped centre would become "a really good facility" for the local community.
"I hope it can be used more often outside school hours," she added.
