The Altrusa Fabric Craft Bazaar was held at the Senior Citizens Hall on Saturday and was the first such event hosted by Altrusa International of Taieri.
President Claire Paterson said although the organisation was raising funds for children's literacy, schoolchildren from across the Taieri had knitted ''licorice allsort'' peggy squares for blankets for Nepal earthquake victims.
Children were invited to knit more squares on the day.
Cass Hughes, of Oamaru, had the job on Saturday of crocheting the squares together to make blankets.
''I wish I had more time,'' she saidBoard member Elizabeth Shepherd said the organisation undertook knitting projects to show children what was possible with wool.
Dr Niranjan Sharma, of Mornington Health Centre, was travelling to his home village in Nepal and would take the blankets with him, she said.
