A Dunedin couple are the proud winners of the inaugural Landlord of the Year award.
Andrea and Andrew Elliott received the award at the NZ Property Investors Federation conference at Rotorua on Saturday night.
"We were surprised, but we thought we had a good chance," Mrs Elliott said.
The couple were not sure they should apply for the award, but sent off an application several months ago.
The couple owned rental properties in Dunedin and Invercargill, with Mrs Elliott managing the tenants and her husband handling the finances.
"The key is about having good relationship with tenants combined with good business practices."
Tenants, in addition to getting their properties properly insulated, were presented with a welcome pack, an initiative which impressed the judges, Mrs Elliott explained.
The couple won a cup to keep for a year, a framed certificate and a bottle of Champagne.
