Learning the ropes

Bravo Company Officer Commanding Captain Duncan McEwan runs a group of Territorial soldiers from Otago and Southland through the ins and outs of a civil defence response at the Dunedin civil defence bunker on Saturday.

The exercise was held to help the soldiers become familiar with the command and control layout of a civil defence response, Capt McEwan said.

``It's a knowledge-building exercise for my guys, who are working in the command and control layout.''

A lot of the group had not been in the civil defence bunker and the exercise would allow them to get a handle on how the system worked during an emergency, he said.

``It's just like civil defence across the board. It's all about working together for the greater good.''
