Acting Southern police district road policing manager Steve Larking said that in the lead-up to Christmas police would set up random breath test sites at various rural and urban locations throughout Otago and Southland.
Those who were going out for drinks after work were reminded to arrange alternative transport home, even the next day.
"People say 'what are you doing it now for', but believe me we do find people who are drunk and driving to work the next day.
No figures were available on how many motorists were processed by police yesterday.
