The Dunedin City Council says it is a work in progress, but new road markings in Lovelock Ave have revealed three new car parks around the entrance to the Dunedin Northern Cemetery.

Council transport group manager Jeanine Benson said the new road markings were yet to be completed, but included marking out the road corridor, spaces for car parking and a shared path for uphill cyclists.

The aim was to improve safety in the area by better defining the road and car park area.

The changes had been designed to make sure appropriate vehicles could still access the cemetery, she said.

Really? Truly DCC planning haven't heard of computer design software? Do they really need to spend thousands drawing "test" lines on roads and car parks to see how thing fit? Somehow, once again I think someone isn't quite telling the whole truth.

But, looking at the photo, it seems DCC are intent on creating another dangerous intersection by moving the carpark entrance even deeper into a blind corner for traffic going downhill. Not sure what could go wrong with this "design". Or is it just another idea designed to fail?
