A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder after his 21-year-old partner was fatally stabbed in Dunedin on Monday.
Police said a postmortem completed last night confirmed Moana Anahera Marie Aranui, of Dunedin, had multiple stab wounds, one of which penetrated her heart, killing her.
Ms Aranui died after an incident in Bay View Rd, St Kilda, police said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McGregor said Ms Aranui's partner was in a stable condition at Dunedin Hospital.
He was to appear before a justice of the peace tomorrow, in a court sitting convened at Dunedin Public Hospital.
Det Snr Sgt McGregor said police would seek a remand in custody.
Ms Aranui's body was released to her family yesterday.
Police expect to complete their investigations at the scene today.
