A witness says a man deliberately drove his vehicle at a Dunedin road worker this morning, before returning to the scene to remonstrate with a manager.

A witness said the motorist was travelling east in Stuart St when he sped through the Cumberland St intersection, currently under stop/go traffic control, and drove past a worker holding a stop sign before driving directly at a Fulton Hogan worker.

The driver came within inches of hitting the worker, the witness said.

He then stopped, got out of his vehicle and called a worker a f******.

A witness said the driver then left the scene, before returning several minutes later to remonstrate with a site manager, who was attempting to defuse the situation.

The Otago Daily Times understands the man has not been arrested and no one was injured in the incident.
